People’s World, a progressive labor magazine, recently hosted a town hall with working class leaders from all over the country. The panelists included the following: Fred Redmond—Secretary-Treasurer, AFL-CIO; Sylvia Chapman—CWA District 4 Staff Representative; Faye Guenther—President, UFCW Local 3000; Ed Ott—Former Executive Director of the NYC Central Labor Council and organizer with the New York Left Labor Project; and Caitlyn Clark—National Organizer and Director of Essential Workers for Democracy.
This event is important for May Day San Jose because it emphasizes the importance of unionization as the key component to a militant May Day. With our unionization rates under 10%, the working class has no ability to fight for our rights and preserve our democracy. We can fight for and win a better world if and only if we unionize.
